Welcome to another anime review for a new summer season premier. The series just landed on my recommendations after watching the current batch of episodes currently available on Crunchyroll. Clevantess is a new series similar to the dark fantasy series Beserker. Humans and humanoid races are enclosed in an area of the landmass where they are surrounded by demon lords and their brethren.

Based on the manga by Yuji Iwahara, the full title is Clevatess: The King of Magical Beasts, the Baby, and the Corpse Hero. The manga currently has 10 volumes that have been released since it first began running in 2020 through the online digital platform Line manga and currently on it’s last story arc as the anime premiered in July. Currently available on Crunchyroll and released up to Episode 7.
In a summary of the series so far, we begin by learning through a young girl named Alicia Glenfall that humanity and other mortal races are living in a small enclosed region of the continent of their world. The larger portions around them are controlled by powerful demon lords, the dark lands, and the brave heroes that try to explore these regions never return. Alicia promises that she will grow up and become a hero and finally explore these mysterious regions of the continent. Years later she with a total of 13 warriors are travelling through a region of the demon king Clevatess’ territory and begin fighting the demons and getting the attention of Clevatess. The warriors, armed with red metal enhanced weapons seem to have an ability to fight off most of the demons. However as Clevatess makes himself know, he encounters the warriors and systematically kills each one with hardly a glance, though Alicia in rage manages to strike Clevatess before she’s also cut down. As she lays dying she thinks of her father and letting him down. Clevatess curious and angry decides to travel to the nearest mortal kingdom, the Haiden kingdom. Clevatess rampages through the kingdom and kills the king.
As he leaves the ruins of the castle, a woman begs him to take her child and raise it, begging that it is innocent and should not be held responsible for the king’s act. He reluctantly decides to do so, returning to his land. There he decides to use his power to revive Alicia and charge her with protecting the baby Luna and help to understand mortals and raise the child. The baby is the sole survivor of the royal family of the Kingdom of Haiden and Alicia suspects that Clevatess will only be benevolent as long as the baby is alive. If it dies Clevantess may no longer have reason to hold back and may rampage and wipe out all the mortal races.
The opening song is performed by Mayu Maeshima, “Ruler” and I have included it below. The ending song is performed by Ellie Goulding and is titled Destiny. A distinct difference between the two but they are posted on video below.
If you would like to read similar style manga I’d recommend the Berserk series. The entire manga is currently available in a special edition deluxe version. Amazon currently sells Vol 1-3 as a set for $102.63. Vols 4-6 for $107.49, Vols 7-9 for $114.00 and Vols 10-12 for $114.00. You can purchase each set by clicking on the pictures below. *Note geekworldverse will earn a commission fee for each purchase*
