Hello all, in a surprising news this week, one of the anime series I planned to cover has just been surprisingly released a new version on Netflix. Detective Conan, or previously known as Case Closed.
The story is about a young high school student named Shinichi Kudo, who obsessed with Sherlock Homes has become a famous private detective. One day after visiting a local amusement park he witnesses and solves a murder but encounters two suspicious men dressed in black. Following them, he is hit from behind and fed an experimental poison pill. Expecting him to die, they leave only for the poison to instead turn 17 year old Shinchi into a 7 year old boy. Forced to hid his true identity he takes the name Conan Edogawa and arranges for his care under his high school best friend Ran Mori and her father another private detective Kogoro Mori. His goal is to join and assist in solving crimes while searching for the men who poisoned him and see if he can change back to his old self.
This series has been running as a manga since 1994, written by Gosho Aoyama, while the anime started running in 1997 and is still airing new episodes and a series of movies. In 2003 Funimation attempted an Americanized version of the series called Case Closed which dubbed roughly 130 episodes. The show did not do well and stopped airing on Toonami.
Attempts to restart it have been made and Chrunchyroll did attempt to stream original run and additional episodes but a proper English version has not been made until now.
Netflix is not airing from the beginning but a special curated set of episodes and select movies with a new dubbed cast. The first set of 9 episodes is now available and covers important episodes of the mysterious black organization, the men who poisoned Shinichi. You should watch the show now and drive up interest so that the rest of the series can be released.
